Chateau Musar was founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar. In 1959, his son Serge took over, joined by his brother Ronald.

The wine gained its first international acclaim in 1979 at the Bristol Wine Fair, where the eminent critic Michael Broadbent propelled Musar into the spotlight. In 1984, Decanter Magazine distinguished Serge Hochar with their first “Man of the Year” award. Today, Chateau Musar is an internationally recognized brand exporting 80% of its production worldwide and members of the third generation are involved to continue this family business.
